AMI

If bad weather, temperatures or road conditions make it unsafe for students to get to school, we will call an AMI distance learning day.  On these days, our goal is to maintain learning routines while keeping everyone safe.

If we run out of the six AMI days allowed by the state, we will call a snow day.  Any school days cancelled after the 6 usable AMI days will be made up in the typical manner as previous years.  The Orrick school calendar lists possible make up days in such circumstances.

What is an AMI distance learning day?
The state of Missouri allows distance learning from home, which they call "alternative methods of instruction," or AMI.  The state says school districts may use up to six AMI distance learning days, and we will not have to add those days to the end of the school year. These are school days for both students and teachers.

How many AMI distance learning days can we use in Orrick?
We build in six AMI distance learning days, as this is the maximum number allowed by the state of Missouri.

When will Orrick determine if an AMI will be implemented?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The Orrick school district will decide whether to use an AMI day on the morning of that day.  AMI days can't be determined prior to the day that is being scheduled as an AMI day.

What will we do if we use up all our AMI distance learning days?
If we have to use up all six AMI distance learning days, starting with the seventh day, we will go back to the old system of calling a snow day and adding the day as a make-up day.

What will an AMI distance learning day look like for students?
All students and families have received instructions from building principals about expectations.  Students should check their online learning platform (Canvas or Seesaw) to see what the teachers have planned for the day.  If your child has received other materials, such as a packet, that will replace the necessity to sign in to the electronic methods.  Teachers will be available to support students and families through email from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Teachers will also be available for video conference if scheduled by the student.

Students are expected to complete assignments, meet deadlines, engage in work and communicate with their teachers if they are needing assistance.

Attendance will be determined for the student by either logging into the designated electronic platform or returning completed work the next day school returns in session.
